Every Friday, I’m publishing my personal top ten songs from a single year and this week it’s the turn of 1979.

Margaret Thatcher, the first British female Prime Minister
So in 1979, Sid Vicious died of an overdose, an IRA bomb killed Lord Mountbatten, some bird called Margaret Thatcher became Prime Minister and Alien was released. And yes, I celebrated my 3rd Birthday.

I have to say this has been my favourite year so far and it features my favourite song of all time. And because I’m such a fascinating human being, I’m going to leave it to you to work out which one it might be…

That seems so long ago… I was five that year. But such great things going on too. As usual tragedy too…

Yes doing these lists, I’ve realised there was so much tragedy every year. It’s not just isolated to present times. It does seem like soooo long ago indeed.

Another list of cracking songs! I still find myself singing lines from most of these songs!

I was nine that year, and yet these are still some of my favorite songs. How can time have flown by like this???

It surprises me that The Cure was making music in the 70s. Since i listened to them in the 90s, of course I assumed they weren’t around then. These are some excellent choices! How is it that so much of this music is still so listenable? It’s amazing. Happy 3rd birthday to you! 🙂 I’m going to guess, “I Will Survive,” as your favorite.

Such a strong year for music. Just amazing bands/artists. Now Angela, I Will Survive is by far one of the greatest pop songs ever written & probably in my top 20 songs of all time, it’s not my favourite. Excellent guess though xx

Another great list! Again, I still forget that some of these were 79! If i’m honest I just can’t pick one.

I know, I know. It’s a tough year to pick a favourite. If it wasn’t for my favourite song ever being there, I would’ve really struggled.

What a great selection!! I was seven in 1979 and remember all of these – clearly significant at shaping my music tastes. I’m also a HUGE Alien fan so I guess my love of Sci-Fi started early too haha 😉

I love how you manage to get Margaret Thatcher and a horrendous extraterrestrial in the same sentence. Gee those kids look so young: Sting, Freddie, Bob, Suggs. As I was 21 that year, they weren’t much older than me. But I never looked as cool as them, unfortunately!

Haha yes. There is a correlation there between Thatcher and Alien.
I know they all look like babies.

I was three this year too. I swear I knew the words to Roxanne before I understood what it was about or just how sexy Sting was…ah, the good ole days.

I’ve looked it up & think I’ve heard of it and I’ve definitely heard of the actress Tracee Ellis Ross before. Now bloody WordPress is telling me I don’t follow you again. This is total lies. I’ve followed you about 10 times now and I get your emails still and everything. Anyway, I’m going to click “Follow” again and I’ll probably have to do it again in a month’s time! So very weird.

WordPress needs to get their shit together. I’m sorry you are dealing with this. I’ll look into it this evening and see if this has happened to other people I screwed everything up I’m afraid by self hosting last year. Ugh!! Thank you for following me…again…and again….and again!
