1. Purple Rain
I think you have probably worked out what is my number one is, but just in case, at the top for me is the outstanding Purple Rain. In fact it is one of my all time favourite songs. I can sing this song word-perfect and I think most of you can too (especially after a few shandies- amirite?). It also won the Oscar for best original song score in 1985. It’s another one of his more emotive tracks and there is something about it that makes me feel emotional no matter what mood I am in. That there, is talent. I’ll leave you with these lyrics from Purple Rain:
“If you know what I’m singing about up here
C’mon raise your hand
Purple rain, Purple rain”
(You’re singing it now, aren’t you?)
Album: Purple Rain
Year: 1984
Chart Position: 6
The one that almost made the list: his version of Nothing Compares 2 U
Please let me know in the comment section below which is your favourite Prince song.

I had no idea Magic Monday was written by Prince. I love that song and now I know why!

My heart is still broken following this loss! I saw Prince in concert on three occasions and loved his work so much. I still get a tear in my eye when I hear the opening lines of Let’s Go Crazy. 😭

Oh my God you saw him live! Three times! I am so unbelievably jealous 🎸💜

I’m totally jealous too, Shelley! “Purple Rain” (the movie and the song) are tied up with some amazing memories in the 80s, and I still can’t believe he’s gone. Amazing song list, Hayley – thanks for making my ears happy!

I still cry when I listen to ‘When Doves Cry’. Sigh. He was a true superstar in my opinion.

He really was. A superstar in his own right. There was nobody else like him. 🎸💜

Purple Rain is such a fantastic song. So many to choose from, this would be a hard list to make

I know, it’s one of those where I could’ve actually done a much longer list. Cheers.

Too many to choose from, but a great list! I am not sure I would put Purple Rain at the top. I did know about Manic Monday, but I know far too much about Prince for my own good!

I know, lots of people disagree with my no.1, but I had to be honest with myself- it is genuinely my favourite. There are far too many great tunes to choose from- you’re right. Thanks for stopping by.

Favourite? Favourite? Where to start?
Sign of the Times. Darling Nikki. Let’s Go Crazy. The man was an incredible musician and iconic artist. His guitar playing is second to know. I miss knowing he’s in the world somewhere just being Prince like no one else can.

It’s easy to use the word “legend”, but he really was. So much talent and a real visionary.

What a great idea for a post! I can’t believe that he would have been 60! He just seemed like someone that would never be older. Such a sad passing.

I know. He kind of just looked the same throughout his career.
