First of all, did you know that Tori was originally in a pop-synth 80s band called Y Can’t Tori Read? To appreciate how amazing they were, HERE is a video of theirs. I think you’ll agree, they were pretty special. Oh and here’s an even more special photo of Tori from those days:

Tori seems to be an artist that divides opinion. She’s marmite. You either love her or hate her. I think it’s safe to say, that I indeed love her. I first discovered her as a 15 year old in my bedroom getting ready for school one morning, engulfing myself in Exclamation! perfume and cleansing with Anne French cleanser when Simon Mayo played Silent All These Years on his radio breakfast show. It was love at first…listen. Tori has supported many a teenager during the 90s through any difficult times. So many people of a certain age, will have that Tori album that helped them survived. Little Earthquakes, Under the Pink and Scarlet’s Walk all did that for me. Tori has built a fiercely loyal fan base and for good reason. She connects with her listeners, she tells her stories candidly and wears her heart on her sleeve. She has also consistently released new material throughout her career, rarely taking a break. She is undoubtedly an album artist rather than a singles artist, as you’ll be able to tell from this list, many of the songs listed are album tracks rather than singles. And which is my favourite of her albums?

My wife absolutely adores and worships her; she’s met her several times…and she even has a Tori Amos sock monkey that a friend made for her. As for me? Not so much. I enjoyed the Professional Widow remix, though!

I remember you saying before that you’re not a fan and that your wife has forced you to go see Tori with her, as I have done the same to my poor long suffering husband too haha. I am literally REELING here that your wife met her (and that she has a Tori sock monkey!).

I was absolutely one of those teenagers in the 90s who found Tori Amos spoke for me and to me. We’d just moved into a new house and I remember playing Little Earthquakes over and over and over. I loved singing along. It was like a new way of breathing. It’s so hard to pick a favorite. I think A Sorta Fairytale is one of my favorites for sure. But there’s the “first time” association with Silent All These Years. So, there’s that, literally brought tears to my eyes as I listened to it. And Taxi Ride… I can’t decide. I really can’t.
This is the perfect playlist for me this week. Both nostalgic and cathartic.

Yes, Silent All These Years will always be so special to me for that “first time” reason. And I know EXACTLY what you mean when you say that singing along to the Little Earthquakes album was like a new way of breathing. So glad you loved this playlist. Very nostalgic and cathartic for me too x

I love Tori. In the 90s I was rising 40 and she helped me through a lot too.
Favourite Album Little Earthquakes. Favourite song a toss up between China and Bonnie and Clyde. Close second The Power of Orange Knickers. 💜

You know, I used to hate The Power of Orange Knickers, but when I listened to it again recently my opinion changed. It’s a really lovely song. Ooh I love Bonnie & Clyde too. That whole covers album is fantastic.

Well she certainly brings something new to “Smells like Teen Spirit” but….. you know where I’m going with this.
That song will forever be stripy tights, DMs, cut off jeans and an offensive tee shirt, hair hanging I’m my eyes, in the SU disco
