2004 is the year that saw me and my better half pack our bags and drive around the US of A for the summer. We started in New Orleans and ended up in San Fransisco. Honestly, the customs officers thought we were mad when we told them our plans on arrival. Musically, 2004 wasn’t a strong year, but there was still a few songs that I absolutely loved and here they are! In no particular order.

1. Ladyflash by The Go Team!

2. Trick Me by Kelis

The Killers are my favourite this week (obvs), which one is yours?

See you next week for 2005!

Mr Brightside is my number 1 from 2004 – it’s still such a tunnnne it’s still in the top 100 songs in the UK (floats in and out) because it’s such a good song!

Shaun of the Dead is still a great film was actually thinking about it this morning. I watched it a couple of weeks ago and thought it was weird seeing them smoking in the pub – we’ve had the ban since 2007.

Blimey, yes you’re right, it does seem odd now seeing any scenes with people smoking in pubs. Can’t believe they used to be so full of smoke. I think Mr Brightside is going to be a clear winner for most people this week.

LOVE Shaun of the Dead. It’s one of my favourites too. Simon Pegg is a hero.

      • I just rewatched the episode of Spaced when they had to win back their landlord. “I want you back for good”. I think I will spend this rainy day watching Simon Pegg movies

It’s so funny how many people have said they can’t remember music from the years their children were born. The year I struggled the most with thinking of 10 songs let alone 10 songs I loved? 2010. I think you can guess what year my child was born haha.

Ah yes, you were absolutely pre-occupied with the baby making process. I can just imagine that your focus could not have possibly been interested in anything else and yay for 2005!

Boo to 2004 then. So glad we have a vote for Coxon, but one can only apologise for the lack of Britney. She almost made the list, but not quite. Soz Brits.

I’m not a fan of any of those songs apart from Dry Your Eyes Mate. That song is great too. That whole the Streets album is basically a piece of art.

Love the new font! Also, must admit the only one I recognize is the Killers!

I went to a concert of theirs though and I was SOO disappointed. They were jerks and clearly didn’t want to be there—which is a total shame because they do have some great music. Ah well, bygone and all that.

Do I have a new font?! Is it the title or all of the text? That must’ve been something WordPress did haha. Oh I’ve heard that the Killers aren’t great people, such a shame. What a disappointment for you.

It was a disappointment! Your heading for “Just Another Blog” is in cursive now–or it was. It looks like it’s not anymore! I don’t think I’m that crazy…I definitely saw a cursive font, but now your original is back. The world is weird.

I don’t know all of these! I was just thinking about why I have such a gap in my memory…but i think I was living in Japan that year, so many of these songs never made it big out East!!

    • thebeasley · June 10

Ah yes there’s a few obscure tracks here too. Weirdly, I was just talking about how Japan isn’t known internationally for its music, last night!

Yeah, they don’t really bother to export it much outside of Asia. Their musicians are often massive in China, Korea and SE Asia though.

I think more young people know it from anime…

I remember hearing the killers on the radio a lot as I was driving home from work. I was fascinated by the song but doubted if I was hearing the lyrics correctly.
