Hooray, a new list of books for you to read! I set this online book club up last year as a way to reconnect people with a love of books and reading. I am as guilty as the next person of picking my phone up far more often than a book. So after enjoying running this online book club during the latter part of 2017, I’ve decided to continue it on into 2018 and I’d absolutely love for you to join me again. So for those of you that are new to my book club or need a reminder of how it works. Here’s a few pointers:
- I will provide a list of 6 books, one for each month for the first half of 2018.
- I’ll always provide at least one non-fiction book within a list.
- At the beginning of the following month, I’ll publish a quick post with my thoughts on the book.
- Your lovely selves can then provide your thoughts/opinions within the comments section (or within my Facebook blog page) and a discussion can evolve from there.
- Obviously, there’s no obligation. You can read all six, only three or just the one. Whatever suits you best or how much you want to join in.
- You can join in the discussion whenever you want, but the closer to the time I published my book review post the better, as you’re more likely to get a response from other readers. I’ll always respond though, so you really are welcome to leave your comment whenever you have finished a book. There are no time constraints.
- If this is continues to be a success, I’ll list 6 more books in June for the latter part of 2018.
- Drinking wine/gin/tea/coffee isn’t obligatory whilst joining in with the discussion about these books, but it might help.
- Any questions, let me know.

- January: Sweet Pea by C.J. Skuse
- February: Hold Back the Stars by Katie Khan
- March: Slade House by David Mitchell
- April: Animal by Sara Pascoe (our non-fiction book selection)
- May: This is How it Always Is by Laurie Frankel
- June: Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo
The chosen list of books is final. If you don’t fancy reading a particular book one month, just give it a miss that month. Hopefully, I’ll continue this again for the second half of the year too.

I NEED to get Morrissey’s “Autobiography” finished – I’m on attempt 3 and I’m in his teenage years currently, the furthest I’ve got before. It’s hard work yet I will not give up on it this time 😂

Oh I’ve heard mixed reviews about that Morrissey book. Hasn’t he written it like one long sentence of something? Well done for attempting. Haha I’m quite looking forward to January’s book, but that might be because I’m a bit twisted. Look forward to you joining in (whenever you can- no pressure) xx

Well, I’ll add at least a few of them to my wishlist now, read a bit more about them and order some after the festivities are over 🙂
Morrissey uses full stops occasionally but he knows nothing of paragraphs. I’ll send you a screenshot of an example page tonight. It’s really good in some ways, he paints a desperate and vivid picture of late 60s Manchester and some phrases he pulls together are fantastic. But it’s sentence after sentence of description with no breaks, the odd anecdote, and it’s pretty much all negative, apart of when he’s describing the love and emotions he feels from pop music and vinyl. So it’s heavy going! A challenging read but I’d recommend having it in your collection 🙂

Blimey that really does sound a bit intense. I actually quite like Morrissey (apart from his questionable politics), but with so many other books I want to read, I’m not sure I’ll have the patience. Maybe on my next long beach holiday (which will probably be in a decade’s time) x

I’m so excited about next year’s books! You have done an exceptional job with this book club in my opinion. Your commentary adds so much to my experience of reading the book. The comments of others are enlightening and I’ve so enjoyed engaging with books and people. Such a delight.
And thank you for the very very nice note about me and my blog. It made tears come to my peepers. 🙂

Aah bless ya. I’ve really appreciated your support though and also love your enthusiasm for the book club too. I’m excited for next year’s books too. I’m starting the year with bit of a dark one!
